My name is Brad, I am a senior psychology and sociology major and this is my last semester at UMBC. I was born and raised in Baltimore City and moved to Abingdon, MD in my junior year of high school. The last two years were spent with long commutes to Poly to finish at the same high school. Driving has become a large part of my life ever since. My full time job requires me to take service calls all over the state of Maryland and not to mention the hull from my house to UMBC everyday. One of my passions in life is SCUBA diving. I teach SCUBA under Steve Deem at UMBC and other colleges in the Baltimore area. Until recently America only was the east coast for me. At the end of August I made my first adventure off the east coast to Vegas. America is the land of opportunity and diversity in my opinion. Even though I have traveled very little and never left the country I can see the diversity in American culture. I also believe that if you work hard enough and want it enough you can accomplish anything.

Hey Brad! My dad graduated from Poly too!! I haven't been off the east coast of the U.S, but i agree that you can see diversity. It's obvious even just in Baltimore City.
Also, i want to scuba, that sounds so fun!!
I agree wholeheartedly as well. I have never left the east coast, but even in such a small view of the U.S. diversity is everywhere. I agreed about what you said about opportunity. Desire and hard work will go a long way in America and help you accomplish your goals. Nice blog.

I also agree that America is all about diversity, and even though you can see that on the east coast, it does become more readily apparent when you travel. I was out in LA in June/July this year for the American Library Association conference and it was just a really great experience to meet so many people from all over and just talk about how their lives are.
Also, on a totally unrelated note, because I love food, did you get a chance to eat at In-and-Out Burger?
